What is it ?

A lip angioma is caused by the proliferation of microvessels that, depending on their type (venous, arterial, or a mixture of both), form a small, benign blue, red, or purplish bump, a few millimeters wide (3 to 10 mm), rarely larger, and harmless, though it may have the drawback of bleeding easily. It never disappears on its own.

Fairly common (5% of the population), it generally appears after age 60, hence the sometimes-used term “senile angioma.” A typical lip angioma, aside from its color, forms a small, soft, rounded, and slightly raised mass.

It is seen more often in women than in men. The unsightly appearance of this colored growth is the main reason why those affected wish to have it removed. No additional tests are usually required. Only large angiomas or those with an appearance that might suggest a malignant lesion warrant an MRI of the lips.

Treatment of Lip Angioma

The most commonly used treatment to remove it is laser therapy. We prefer surgery for the following reasons:

The laser burns the angioma and forms a scab that lasts one to two weeks, sometimes longer. Two sessions one month apart may be necessary.

Surgery performed under local anesthesia is quick (15 to 20 minutes) and requires no more than two or three stitches, which are removed on the fifth day, leaving the treated area with no visible scar (healing occurs extremely quickly in this area).

The images shown here are for informational purposes only. They illustrate possible outcomes based on individual factors (age, skin quality, medical history, lifestyle, etc.).

Since each individual is unique and reacts differently, the results of each treatment may vary depending on numerous factors, making it impossible to guarantee a specific outcome.

Please note: these photographs do not constitute a guarantee of results or an incentive to undergo a surgical procedure.

A preliminary consultation with a healthcare professional is required to assess your eligibility before any surgical treatment.

No digital manipulation has been performed on these images other than possible cropping
